TikTok app was very popular in india. Milion of users sharing shorts, engaging videos. It became a hub for trends, entertainment and opportunity for new content creator. But in 2020 TikTok app faced a Major setback in india. 

The Popularity of TikTok app in India 

Chinese App TikTok entered india in 2017 . When Jio was popular for their low price internet pack. In that time smartphone was growing in indian population. So this entertainment app TikTok grew rapidly. Its interface and short video formats was very simple and mobile friendly.  Users could create 15 to 60 second videos featuring lip- syncing, commedy and dancing etc. By early 2020 india was home to over 200 milion TikTok users.

How TikTok Empowered Indian Creators 

TikTok was a social media app. After it became a career platform. Many creators from small towns gained national fame. Monetizing their content or videos through brand collaboration and live streaming. But unfortunately in Jun 2020 , the Indian government banned TikTok, citing privacy and security concern. The decision impacted million of Indian Creators, business and user who relied on the platform for content creation and marketing .so many creators switched to alternate platform such as YouTube shorts, instagram reels and moj etc. but the unique TikTok ecosystem couldn’t be fully replaced.

As of August 24, 2025 , TikTok remains banned in india. That the website has become partially accessible to some users. The Indian government was clarified that no official order has been issued to lift the ban. This report was false.
